NFC PCB Board Assembly and Testing (Argentina Project)
NFC PCB Board Assembly and Testing (Argentina Project)
In this project, we provided NFC PCB board assembly and testing services for our client in Argentina. NFC (Near Field Communication) is a short-range wireless communication technology known for its high security, fast connection, and low power consumption. It's widely applied in access control, public transportation, mobile payments, and other smart device systems.
Project Overview
The customer ordered 2,500 pieces of custom NFC PCBs. These PCBs are compact and required 100% functional testing before delivery.
PCB Specifications
-
Material: FR4
-
Board Size: 62mm x 53mm
-
Board Thickness: 1.0mm
-
Copper Thickness: 1oz
-
Layers: Single Layer
-
Surface Finish: Lead-Free HASL
-
Solder Mask Color: Green
-
Silkscreen: White
-
Flame Retardant Rating: TG140, 94V-0
-

The board design is straightforward, with no challenging trace spacing or pad dimensions.
Assembly Process
There are five types of components listed in the BOM, which includes both SMD and DIP parts on both sides of the PCB. The BOM list provided detailed part numbers, which helped streamline the sourcing and placement processes.
One special component is JP1, a DIP part located in the center of the PCB. The client specified that the pad height after soldering must be lower than the adjacent IC to ensure a perfect fit in its housing. To ensure this, the engineer provided an assembly guide with clear instructions for handling JP1. Special care was also taken during packaging to protect components that protrude, avoiding scratches or detachment during transit.
Functional Testing
Testing was a critical step in this project. To ensure full functionality, we used NFC-enabled smartphones and a mobile app called "NFC Taginfo by NXP" (available on Google Play Store). By placing the phone over the assembled PCB, we could verify the detection and operation of the NFC function.
If a board failed detection, the most likely issues were related to the 1% tolerance capacitor, the PCB coil, or the IC. The customer originally planned to send specialized test equipment, but due to tight delivery timelines, we procured a compatible NFC tester locally and performed the full-scale testing ourselves. All 2,500 pieces passed functional testing and were shipped on time.
Application Scenarios
The NFC device designed by the client has broad application potential, including:
-
Contact-based Services: Used for access control, transportation tickets, and logistics tracking by tapping the card or device to a reader.
-
Contactless Payments: NFC devices can be used for mobile payments by tapping near POS terminals.
-
Data Exchange: Two NFC-enabled devices can share data like music, images, or contact information via point-to-point transmission.
-
Smart Browsing: Users can scan NFC posters or terminals to access traffic updates or promotional content.
-
Remote Permission Control: Via GPRS, users can send encoded messages to grant or restrict access to specific personnel (e.g., housekeeping staff).
This project demonstrates our team's expertise in assembling, testing, and delivering high-precision NFC PCB products efficiently and with strict adherence to customer requirements.
