About LCD1602 Display

In many of the current PCB Assembly projects, we can use the LCD1602 display, so when we use the LCD1602 display, we need to pay attention to, as much as possible to understand some things, I will summarize here.

For the LCD1602 display, the first time I contacted it was during college, my college graduate design used the LCD1602 display. At that time, I also learned some principles and parameters about this display, which is summarized in the first part. Regarding the LCD1602 display and similar liquid crystal display we encountered in the project, some points we need to pay attention to, I have summarized in the second part.

First part LCD1602 parameters

When using the LCD1602 as a display for the device, the following are what we need to know:

In general, the LCD 1602 display is connected to the P0 port of the chip. The LCD1602 display uses a 16-pin interface, and the corresponding functions of each interface are:

The first pin is VSS. Its function is to ground the circuit.

The second pin is VCC. Its function is to access the 5V power supply.

The third pin is V0. Its function is to adjust the display contrast. When the positive power supply and the ground power supply are connected, the contrast is the highest and the lowest respectively. A 1K potentiometer can be used to adjust the ghosting caused by excessive contrast.

The fourth pin is RS. Its function is to select the register when it is high and low. There are two kinds of data registers and instruction registers.

The fifth pin is RW. Its function is to read and write separately at high level and low level. With RS, the following functions can be implemented. Both RS and RW are low, writing instructions or displaying addresses. RS is low and RW is high, reading the busy signal. RS is high and RW is low, writing data.

The sixth pin is the E terminal. Its function is to control whether the display module executes commands according to its own high and low levels.

The seventh to fourteenth pins are D0 to D7. Its function is an 8-bit bidirectional data line.

The fifteenth and sixteenth pins function to supply power to the backlight.

In order to ensure that the P0 port does not lose when transmitting data or receiving data, the LCD 1602 should continue to run for a period of time while transmitting data.


The second part LCD1602 Notes to Use

The picture shows the physical picture of the LCD1602 display. Generally, when using it, it is necessary to use the board-to-board connector to connect it to the board to be used.

When storing such a liquid crystal display, we need to pay attention to the following points:

1. Do not press any objects on the surface.

2. Avoid strong light and put it in the dark.

3. Avoid storing in a temperature difference environment.

4. Insert the antistatic bag and seal the mouth.

For the problems that may be encountered in production, I have done a finishing and explaining the solution:

1. A black screen appears. When the power is turned on, if the monitor is black, disconnect the power immediately. First check if the power supply output is normal, the polarity of the power supply is correct, and the input and output wiring are in good contact. Be careful not to touch directly with your hands to avoid injury.

2. A white screen appears. After the power is turned on, if the monitor is white, please turn off the power, check if the external interface is connected correctly, check for looseness, poor contact, etc. After rewiring, turn on the power.

In addition, liquid crystal displays similar to this one are applicable to the following points, so we should pay attention to the following points when using a similar display:

First point is waterproof.

If the inside of the LCD monitor is flooded, it is easy to disable internal components. Therefore, you should pay attention to whether you are storing or using it. If there is only a layer of water mist on the screen, you can wipe it off with a soft cloth and then put it in a warm place, when the water evaporates. But remember that the temperature should not be too high.

Second, long-term use or standby is not advisable.

Generally, the longest continuous running time of this display is mentioned in the manual of the display. Therefore, we must pay attention to, after testing or normal use, after working for several hours, we should cut off the power, let the monitor rest for a while, and then continue to work. Or at least turn down the brightness and let it take a break.

The third point is not to collide.

The material used in LCDs is glass, which is very fragile, so we have to avoid collisions. When it comes to production and installation, it should be handled with care and not thrown away. Collisions should also be avoided during normal use.

Finally, it is not allowed to dismantle it.

For the liquid crystal display, there is a small problem. We can't dismantle it privately. The inside is very precise. For those who don't understand its structure and working principle, it usually has a small problem. Moreover, the display of the screen of the liquid crystal display is carried out by a specially treated inclined glass piece as a carrier, and the display content is realized by passing a current at a specific position. Therefore, the current passing through it may be very large, and even if the power is turned off, he may store electrical energy. No matter how many volts are connected, do not disassemble it to avoid danger.
